Anthropic has unveiled Claude Corps, a national fellowship program that will train early-career workers to use its Claude AI system and place them with nonprofits across the United States. The company said it is committing an initial $150 million to the effort.

The program is designed to send 1,000 fellows into nonprofit organizations for yearlong, full-time, in-person assignments. Anthropic said fellows will be paid while they help host organizations build tools, improve workflows and advance their missions. The company framed the initiative as part workforce development, part AI adoption program, with the goal of both strengthening nonprofits and helping fellows build career-relevant technical skills.

Anthropic said Claude Corps is meant to address a broader question the company sees emerging as AI systems spread through the economy. In the company's view, firms building advanced AI should help make the benefits of the technology widely available and support workers and institutions affected by the transition.

How the program is structured

Claude Corps will be run as a partnership among three organizations. Anthropic will provide funding, overall strategy and Claude-related expertise. CodePath, a nonprofit focused on computer science education, will serve as the fellows’ employer of record and handle programming during the fellowship. Social Finance, a nonprofit and registered investment advisor, will oversee measurement and evaluation and help design a longer-term financing vehicle that could support expansion.

Each fellowship will last 12 months. Before placements begin, Anthropic and CodePath will provide training on how to use Claude in nonprofit settings. Once embedded with host organizations, fellows will continue to receive five hours of weekly training. The rest of their time will be spent working for the nonprofit.

Anthropic said fellows will earn a salary of $85,000 plus benefits. They will also get mentor support from CodePath, technical office hours with Anthropic and access to a large Claude token budget. If necessary, relocation support will be available.

Nonprofits set to host fellows

The company said at least 400 nonprofits will host Claude Corps fellows over the next year. The initial list includes organizations working in education, workforce development, food security, veterans’ services, mental health, ocean conservation and public service. Hosts named by Anthropic include Braven, Code the Dream, Heartland Forward, Montgomery County Food Bank, Team Red, White & Blue, Reef Environmental Education Foundation, SoundOff, StriveTogether and YMCA of Greater Charlotte.

Several participating organizations said the fellows could help them move faster on work that would otherwise take scarce staff time. Some pointed to data analysis, automation, software development and improved internal systems as likely areas of impact. Others emphasized that AI should support, rather than replace, human-led service delivery.

Anthropic also highlighted participation from groups including Goodwill Industries International, Year Up United, Code for America, Pacific Community Ventures, the International Rescue Committee and RAINN, among others.

Applications now open

Applications for fellows opened on June 11 and will close on July 17 for the first cohort, which is set to begin in October 2026. Anthropic said the inaugural class will include 100 fellows. Applications for later cohorts will remain open on a rolling basis, with the next groups scheduled to start in January 2027 and August 2027.

The fellowship is open to anyone over 18 with fewer than two years of full-time work experience. Anthropic said applicants do not need a specific educational background, but they must be authorized to work in the U.S., be comfortable working with Claude and be willing to relocate if needed.

Host organization applications are also open, according to the company.

Anthropic said it plans to measure both organizational outcomes and fellow career development to determine how the program should evolve. The company added that it hopes Claude Corps can eventually grow far beyond the initial 1,000-fellow plan.
